Inside Ursula Hitler's Head 53: Bigger - THE THRILLING CONCLUSION!

This is yet another storyline that I went into without a solid plan for how I was going to end it, and once again I ended up desperately trying to think up a satisfying conclusion at the last minute. I even posted something on my old Livejournal blog, begging the people on my friendslist to come up with an ending I could use. Seriously, I was up Shit Creek in a leaky boat. When will I ever learn?!

This was what I came up with, and I'm not sure what to think of it. If you're looking for a conventional, tidy narrative conclusion, this undeniably fails. We're following Meany through the whole thing as he tries to save Sweetie, and then at the very end, bang, it suddenly becomes a story about Sweetie's messed up self-esteem. But Inside Ursula Hitler's Head has always been just random as hell, so hopefully nobody was too disappointed that I didn't exactly follow the classic, Hero with a Thousand Faces model or anything.

This was another instance where I built an episode around my limitations. Xtranormal offered a green screen environment, but at that point I had neither the expertise nor the equipment to do green screen effects. So, I made Mandy's microscopic universe into a featureless green void.

The results aren't exactly going to put Industrial Light & Magic out of business or anything, but I kind of went nuts with the special effects in this episode. I think it turned out OK, but I really had no business attempting that opening sequence with nothing at my disposal but Videospin and a few city backgrounds I swiped from a screensaver or someplace. That's like trying to paint the Sistine Chapel with a box of Crayolas.

Desperate to save Sweetie, Mr. Meany rather unwisely turns to Fiona Pretzels, the local feminist academic, for advice.

Fiona's a character I plan to do more with, but I'm rather ambivalent about her. I'm a big lefty, so I feel a little iffy about making fun of feminist academics. On the other hand, a lot of feminist academics drive me absolutely nuts. Really, I don't think that every feminist academic in the world is an obnoxious idiot or something... But let's just say that if you ever utter the words "male privilege" in my vicinity, I will not be held responsible for my actions.

We up the stakes, as Nobb and Tingles return. Meany's last line, "God damn every God damn thing to hell," is actually something I've been saying for years whenever I've been really depressed. I think I swiped it from a Flannery O'Connor story.

Heh. Cute. If you look closely, the shrunken Sweetie never actually moves her mouth when she speaks. I'm not exactly paying the bills with these toons, so I've got to save time wherever I can.

Far and away our most successful episode yet, with over 30,000 views as I write this. I still rather like this one. The only thing I wish I could change is Sweetie mispronouncing her own name. Swee-yad-ee?
